The Perpetual Gospel
And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. 2 Timothy 2:2
Jesus has commanded us to make disciples. We are to teach them the gospel. What is the gospel?
“Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures” 1 Corinthians 15:3b-4 – “and that believing ye might have life through his name.” John 20:31
God has given us a great stewardship. A stewardship is the responsible overseeing and protection of something considered worth caring for and preserving: nothing is more precious than the gospel! – “for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth” Romans 1:16b.
We are to watch over this gospel, protect its integrity and preserve it for the generations to come.
Is that not what our LORD has done?
He entrusted the gospel to the apostles and the apostles made disciples. Many died (and are yet dying) along the way to ensure the gospel would continue to be taught...and so it must continue through us.
Let it not be said that it stopped with “us” and certainly not with “me.”
JESUS CHRIST IS LORD
