OUR RESOLVE
Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14
Resolutions made, many broken, so much stress… At the onset of each new year thousands resolve to improve their lives. Some of the most common resolutions are:
1. lose weight
2. quit smoking
3. eat healthy
4. exercise
5. get out of debt
Statistically, a mere 8% of resolutioners achieve their goals.
As followers of Christ, our overarching goal is to live a holy life. Hebrews 12:14 tells us...”without holiness, no man shall see the Lord.” Therefore, we must endeavor continually to put off sin and put on the attributes of our LORD (Ephesians 4:22-32, Colossians Chapter 3).
Assessing our lives once a year raises the question, “Why wait for a new year to examine ourselves whether practically or spiritually?” Bear in mind that the items on the preceding list have spiritual connotations as related to the fruit of the Spirit – temperance (self control) in particular.
Are you a new year resolution enthusiast? If so, I encourage you to “resolve not to resolve.” Press toward the mark daily.
JESUS CHRIST IS LORD
