OUR INCESSANT WAR
If you are a fellow Christian, you are engaged in the never-ending war against your sin. A major battleground in this war is…
Comfortable Sins Ingratitude, laziness, neglecting the daily reading of God’s Word… the list can go on.
Because these are not obvious sins (such as drunkenness, fornication or thievery), the tendency is to coexist with them, often for years. These sins are plainly shown to us at each observance of the Lord’s Supper as we examine our hearts before God and seek His forgiveness. Resolving to address these sins before the next supper, we forget and fail to take any steps to eradicate them.
Targeting the Comfort Zone
Personally, I decided it was time for me to be aggressive about the ‘comfortable sins’ in my life, so I devised a plan. On 3×5 cards I wrote…
1. the name of my sin
2. a scripture pertaining to my sin
3. the action I need to take
I committed to read these cards every morning after scripture reading and prayer. By the third day, weary of looking at my sin, I thought, “If I’m tired of looking at my sin after three days, how grieved God must be! How merciful He has been to me!”
This practice reminds me to “take up my cross daily” and to ask God’s help to fight the battle for the day. More aware of the temptation to sin, I look more readily for the way to escape. Perhaps, by His grace, this practice may help you also.
“ There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”
1 Corinthians 10:13
F i g h t O n ! ! !
For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. What then? Shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. Romans 6:14-15
