One True Possession
For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. Timothy 6:7
We were born empty-handed, possessing nothing material; yet invisible within us—more precious than any worldly possession—dwells an ever-living soul.
The soul is who we are — the immaterial, thinking, reasoning part of us. It will be separated from the body upon death. We know the body will be buried or cremated, but since the soul doesn’t die, where does it go?
The soul goes to one of two very real places where it will consciously exist and live forever – either...
1. Heaven - the place where God dwells -or-
2. the lake of fire
It is important to understand what the Bible teaches on this because...
1. it is certain that we will die
2. heaven is eternal joy and peace
3. the lake of fire is eternal torment
We need assurance that heaven will be our eternal home.
So we will begin at the beginning of the bible, focusing on Genesis chapters 1 through 3. This may be a review for some, but we want to cover this for those who may not be acquainted with these passages.
These chapters are foundational to understanding...
1. who God is
2. who we are
3. why we die
Next time...
~Who is God?
~Who are we?
