Let’s take a look at what most of us believe is the number one obstacle…

Time! Time! Time!

We may truly believe there are not enough hours in the day. For many, time with God is three minutes. That’s how long it takes to read a page from a devotional while gulping a cup of coffee or eating lunch; prayer is on the fly.

Dedicated time alone with God to read scripture and pray is vital. It must be the one nonnegotiable time slot in our day. Without it we will not grow in the faith nor be a fruit-bearing disciple, wife, mother or employee.

Morning – The Time Solution

My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up. Psalm 5:3

Since our relationship with God is more important than any other person, thing or pursuit, we must not allow anyone or anything to hinder communion with Him.

Morning is the perfect time to meet with the LORD. Why morning?

Frankly, if we don’t do it before we get involved in the activities of the day, we probably won’t do it later. The goal is to make our time alone with God a natural part of our morning.

Garnering Success

Our success may be depend on getting up earlier than the rest of the family. Some of the things we normally do in the morning like making lunches or ironing may need to be done in the evening.

The temptation to hit the snooze button, cuddle into the pillow and sleepily say, “I’ll do it before I go to bed tonight” or “I’ll do it during my lunch hour” must be resisted. We know it is not likely to happen, or if it does, it will lack quality.

Let’s Ask Ourselves

Would we get up an hour earlier to catch a plane?

If the kids’ school schedule changed and required getting up an hour earlier for the entire school year, would we do it?

At the request of our employer, would we report to work an hour early for a meeting?

The answer to all of these questions is “Yes.” So, we see that is a matter of perception.
We do with time those things we believe are important.

Each of us must give an honest answer to the question, “Why, isn’t daily time alone with God important enough to make sure I don’t miss it?”

Persevere!!

Perseverance is the key to victory in this struggle. We must do whatever it takes! It may be hard at first and may take a week or so to get a workable plan.

Get up early enough tomorrow morning to read one chapter in your bible and pray. Psalms may be a good place to begin. Notice the difference in your day. Do it again the following day. If you miss a day, don’t throw in the towel. Persevere!

Dedicated time alone with God to read scripture and pray must be the one nonnegotiable time slot in the day.

JESUS CHRIST IS LORD

Thanks for reading! We do not use grandmother's hand sewn quilt for a picnic or Mom’s fine china for our toddler's birthday party. Because we are one, when we are good to our husbands, we are actually good to ourselves. Likewise, when we cause them harm, we harm ourselves. The bible gives us a great example of a wife that does well by her husband and one that causes misery. Her devotion to her husband's welfare is clearly seen as she:
*works by his side making tents to support their household Acts 18:1-3
*serves with him in ministry, yet does not try to rise above him Acts 18:24- 26 17
*joyfully makes her home available for church meetings Romans 16:5, 1 Corinthians 16:19

Whew! What a woman! She held down a job, worked in ministry, was submissive to her husband and hospitable to the saints. Priscilla truly worked in concert with Aquila. Interestingly, the bible does not mention Priscilla or Aquila separately. They were extremely effective in ministry because they functioned as one. Priscilla is a striking example of a wife who “did good.”

In contrast, let's take a look at Eve. Unfortunately, she harmed her husband immensely.

Eve – Wife of Adam
Genesis 2:7 through Genesis 3:24
Eve offered her husband the fruit that God had forbidden them to eat. Adam decided to take her up on the offer. It was not Eve's fault that Adam ate. Obviously, he had been obedient to God's command until this point. Is it possible that the fruit was more appealing to him when presented by her hand than when merely hanging on the tree? Eve's action was a disservice to her husband, herself, her children, and all mankind. Why? Because, when Adam ate, sin and death entered the world.
“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.” Romans 5:12

How was Adam harmed by accepting his wife's offer?
*He experienced shame before God Genesis 3:10
*He was expelled from the garden Genesis 3:23-24
*He had to work hard to survive Genesis 3:17-19
*His name is tarnished (forever tied to the fall of man) Romans 5:14; Proverbs 22:1
*His seed produces fallen sinners Romans 5:12
*He died Genesis 5:5
Because Eve was deceived, she caused her husband great harm. I believe the lesson to us here is to endeavor to know the Word of God well. If Eve had known with certainty what God had commanded, would she have been so easily deceived? We do not know. (This question exists because her response to the serpent was not exactly what God had said.) However, we see here that lacking clarity pertaining to God's commandment can cause us (or anyone) to fall into sin. In this example, we also see, we can easily take our husbands down with us.

Priscilla is not the only good wife in the bible nor is Eve the only wife in scripture to harm her husband, but let's take a look at ourselves. The question begs to be asked, “Which wife am I?”

Something to think about...
*What are some ways that I can be good to my husband?
*How can I support my husband in ministry or business?
*Am I doing anything that could be harmful to my husband?
*Is there anything I am not doing that could eventually cause my husband harm?
*Do I try to influence my husband's decisions for selfish reasons?
*Do I intentionally deceive my husband?
*Do I buy things and hide them from him?
*Do I undermine his discipline of the children?
*Do I encourage the children to respect my husband?
*Do I frustrate him through disrespect and disobedience?
*Do I do anything behind my husband's back?
*Am I open and honest with him in everything?
*Do I respect his God given authority in our home?

JESUS CHRIST IS LORD

Thanks for reading! A Christian loves the law of God. No longer does he despise it. However, we are not saved by keeping God’s law, but those who are saved keep God’s law because they are saved. He Himself would bear our punishment through the sacrifice of Himself. In love, He would come to earth and die in our place in the person of Jesus Christ. Our relationship to God is broken because of our sin.
“But your iniquities¹ have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear” (Isaiah 59:2).

Banishment Adam was banished from the garden where God had placed him. Even the ground was cursed because of Adam’s sin, consequently, only by his toil and labor would the ground produce food for him.
Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us, to know good and evil. His corrupt nature is passed on from generation to generation through our fathers. We inherit his sinful nature, and due to our own sin against God, we will die physically as well.
“Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned” (Romans 5:12).

Eternity in the lake of fire Adam did not merely die physically. In the day that Adam sinned against God, he died spiritually. As descendants of Adam, we are born spiritually dead in sin, separated from God. Upon physical death, eternal torment in the lake of fire awaits all who have not been reconciled¹ to God.

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness” (Romans 1:18).

¹ Reconciled – brought into friendship from a state of hostility, enmity, or hatred

Next time…
God’s Judgment and Compassion

God and Us

Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.

Christ Our Anchor

Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.
Psalm 95:6

Who Is God?

God is the Creator of the heavens and the earth, mankind, and all that exists.

The bible tells us in detail how He created everything and everyone in Genesis Chapters 1 and 2...

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. He was commanded by God not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil which was in the garden where God had placed him to live. He ate from the tree. This willful act of disobedience corrupted his nature.² As a result, the thoughts and desires of his heart became evil.
